Walking with The Snowman raises £16,475 for BBC Children in Need

Walking with The Snowman, MediaCity Manchester

Walking with The Snowman was a festive sculpture trail taking place at MediaCityUK and The Quays this Christmas time to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

The trail was also part of nationwide celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs’ much-loved picture book, The Snowman.

The twelve large sculptures, which were inspired by the song The Twelve Days of Christmas, were sold in an online auction to raise money for BBC Children in Need. 47 local schools and groups took part in an inspiring Learning Programme and the sculptures’ sponsors participated in a festive Sponsors Challenge, also to raise vital funds.

The project raised a total of £16,475, the net proceeds of which will be donated to BBC Children in Need. This includes £15,000 from the online auction, £1175 from the Learning Programme and £300 from the Sponsors Challenge.

The money raised through Walking with The Snowman will help BBC Children in Need to continue to make a real difference to the lives of children all across the UK, ensuring that every child has a happy and secure childhood and the chance to reach their greatest potential.

The small Snowmen sculptures are still on display in the Lowry Outlet, The Lowry and the Open Centre at MediaCityUK until Sunday 13 January, when they will be returned to the schools and groups that created them as a lasting legacy of the project.
